| Sumario: | The Observatorio Astronomico Nacional is run and operated by the Instituto de Astronoma of the NationalAutonomous University of Mexico. It is located in the northern part of Mexico, in the sierra San Pedro Martir(SPM), in the state of Baja California. At an altitude of 2890 m above sea level, 31 north in latitude, ankedby the Pacic Ocean and the gulf of Baja California, SPM has proven to be one of the last pristine spots fora ground-based astronomical observatory in our planet. The IAUNAM is making substantial e orts towardsconservation and further development of this excellent astronomical site. Here we present a brief account of itsbasic characteristics and facilities. |
