Sumario:Advances in understanding cellular mechanisms in the aging process have allowed to delay it and increase longevity. Many studies indicates that aging may be influenced by several factors, including nutritional ones. Thus, it is known that dietetic control may be an important element in longevity, it is well known that caloric restriction (CR) (i.e. 30-40% decrease in nutritional regimen) is the most effective fisiologic manipulation to extend the maximum life expectancy. Increasing in longevity has been partially explain by the benefits of CR in reducing oxidant stress and improving neuroendocrinal function, among others. Moreover, it is very important to maintain reproduction in long-lived species with commercial livestock value, domestic value, even for preservation of threatened or endangered wildlife species, since it is known that older individuals have reduced reproductive capacity. Thus, CR can maintain reproductive parameters. Therefore, the objective of this experiment was to analyze the effect of CR in Male Sexual Behavior (MSB) and sperm quality of the Wistar Rat during the aging process. At the beginning of this work were used 12 months old male rats, whose recorded food intake for fifteen days (to know how much food they ate daily ad libitum), as well as a MSB test and a quality sperm. Later, these subjects were divided into three groups: 1) Control feed ad libitum; 2) 15% CR and 3) 35% CR. CR was induced for three and six months, at the end of these period, MSB and sperm quality, as well as some metabolic indicators were analized. Our results show that CR improves MSB and sperm quality of aging rats at 3 and 6 monts of CR.
