This article entails a descriptive and cor­relational study that can be considered exploratory. The author analyzes the structure of the argument texts in which those markers are operating and describes and illustrates the different functions carried out by the markers within the essays, proving their prevailing role for the processing of inferences. She also verifies the correspondence between the markers’ appropriateness and the logical progression of the essays in which they are working. This allows to demostrate that the use of those particles in arguments is essential in order to produce coherent texts.En esta investigación se abordan los problemas de redacción que actualmente tienen los estudiantes de educación superior a partir del aná­lisis del uso de los marcadores discursivos en sus textos. El corpus esco­gido son 80 ensayos escritos por estudiantes de la Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. Constituye un estudio descriptivo/correlacional y es de tipo exploratorio. Se analiza la estructura de los textos argumentativos en donde operan dichos marcadores, se describen e ilustran las diferentes funciones que los marcadores cumplen en los ensayos y se comprueba el rol preponderante que poseen para el procesamiento de las inferencias. Además, se constata la correspondencia entre la pertinencia de los marca­dores y la progresión lógica de los ensayos en donde funcionan.
