Radiation crosslinking of the virgin and recycled low density polyethylene blend

A comparative investigation of the electron beam irradiationeffect on properties of the virgin and recycled low density polyethylene(VPE and RPE) and their blend has been done. VPE, RPEand the blend in ratio of 50/50 were irradiated with accelerated electrons(E = 1.3 MeV) at dose rate of 42 kGy/h an...

Sumario:A comparative investigation of the electron beam irradiationeffect on properties of the virgin and recycled low density polyethylene(VPE and RPE) and their blend has been done. VPE, RPEand the blend in ratio of 50/50 were irradiated with accelerated electrons(E = 1.3 MeV) at dose rate of 42 kGy/h and doses from 25 to350 kGy. Samples were analyzed for the sol/gel content as well astheir mechanical and thermal properties were tested. Dependences ofgel fraction yield, strain at break, Young’s modulus and melting pointof the irradiated polymers on absorbed dose were determined. It hasbeen found a different effectiveness of the VPE, RPE and their blendcrosslinking caused by the electron beam irradiation.
