| Sumario: | The objective of this article is to analyze the perception of the Piste residents, in the Mexican state of Yucatan, about the economic, socio-cultural and environmental impacts of tourism that reaches the archaeological site of Chichen-Itza. Within this tourist process, Piste is located as an obligatory point of passage to reach this archaeological site and this site represents the main source of employment for the inhabitants. To carry out this research, we used a qualitative method in which 18 semi-structured interviews were carried out, as well as on-site observation work. We were able to observe that the perceptions of the population regarding tourism are positive since for the residents the economic benefits are even greater than the social and environmental costs. Given that the population is heavily dependent on tourism, the tendency is to justify the negative impacts for the sake of the local economy. |
