It starts from the premise that, within this milieu, urban trams were gradually attached to the structures of Mexican cities. I argue that its subsequent incorporation into the provincial capitals – Tepic, for example – consolidated the presence of the tram as a means of public transport. I also discus particularly the demonstration of the interests of national and foreign oligarchies and how they seem to have focused on the concept of mobility as an object of desire and aspiration, and, above all, on profit gain.El artículo estudia la incorporación del tranvía de tracción animal a la estructura urbana de Tepic utilizando diversas fuentes hemerográficas locales y regionales. Este estudio se centra en el periodo posterior a la llegada del ferrocarril a México a mediados del siglo XIX, durante el cual todo el país aspiró a modernizar sus comunicaciones. Se parte de la premisa de que, dentro de este entorno, los tranvías urbanos se anexaron de manera paulatina a las estructuras de las ciudades mexicanas. Se argumenta que su posterior incorporación a las capitales de provincia – por ejemplo, Tepic – consolidó la presencia del tranvía como medio de transporte público.
