Sumario:The present study was raised with the objective of locating and characterizing morphologically 'Hass' avocado variants that can be used as commercial varieties in the avocado fringe of the state of Michoacan. The morphological characterization of 'Hass' avocado, of original origin, and two genotypes considered as variants of this (Jimenez-2 and Mengano) were made based on the descriptors for avocado elaborated by the "International Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants (UPOV)“. Ten trees were selected from each genotype, from which morphological characters of leaves, inflorescences, fruits and seeds as well as oil content were evaluated. There were highly significant differences between genotypes, the Jirnenez-2 variant being the one with the most similarities with 'Hass' in terms of leaf shape (ovate), position of the inflorescence (terminal); size (139-441 g), shape (ellipsoid to obovate) and oil content (22.6%) of the fruits; size (20 -28 g) and shape (ellipsoid to oblong) of the seed. The Mengano variant presented lanceolate leaves, subterminal inflorescences, fruits of obovoid to piriform form of large size (400-780 g) and oil content of 11.86%. According to the results obtained, the Jimenez-2 variant can be exploited commercially in the same way as 'Hass', while the Mengano variant for its low oil content, high productivity and large size (up to 780 g) of the fruit can be exploited. It can explode for the industry.
