Descripción
Sumario:In 2009, China became Brazil’s biggest trade partner. The intensification of trading relations between them in the last few years has led to rapid changes in Brazil’s aggregate results and in its balance of trade profile. On the one hand, it has permitted a big expansion of Brazilian exports, although these are very concentrated on low technology content products, such as farming raw materials and minerals. On the otherhand, it has led to a sharp expansion of the share of Chinese manufactures in Brazil’s domestic market, affecting industrial production in Brazil. Also, the data presented in this article provide evidence that China’s products are displacing Brazilian manufacturing exports in third markets, especially in Latin America.
