This has generated certain discrepancies in the scientific community for two fundamental reasons: 1) Mind concept is not clear when it is referred it, therefore neither what are mental disorders and 2) it alludes to a mind-body dualism that is establishes in the explanations of human behavior and psychological problems, producing confusion about what the object of study of psychology is as a science. In this eassy, the concept of mind is analyzed from a historical-philosophical perspective, later an analysis is made against the medical model of mental disorders to include the concept of psychological well-being.  El término “mente” ha sido ampliamente usado en psicología como parte del lenguaje técnico, el cual es utilizado generalmente en la explicación de los problemas psicológicos generando un segundo nivel de salud llamado “salud mental”. Esto ha generado ciertas discrepancias en la comunidad científica por dos razones fundamentales: 1) no queda claro qué se quiere decir cuando se habla de mente y, por lo tanto, de trastornos mentales y 2) se alude a un dualismo mente-cuerpo que se instaura en las explicaciones del comportamiento humano y los problemas psicológicos, produciendo cierta confusión en cuanto a cuál es el objeto de estudio de la psicología como ciencia.
