Descripción
Sumario:The purpose of this work is to show the importance of knowing about ecclesiastic procedural law for the analysis of judicial sources in that environment. Knowing how a judicial file is compiled and how and what criteria are used to assess the actions and strategies of the persons that intervene in the process from each of the positions: actor, accused, lawyers on both sides, witnesses, public prosecutors and judges, permits a better consideration and analysis of the judiciary documentation for historical research. This particular trial, held in the court of the Provisorato of the Archbishopric of Mexico at the turn of the 19th century, clearly illustrates all the different phases of the trial, showing the subtleties of the procedures of ecclesiastical colonial justice.
