Sumario:On the calendar used by the ancient Nahua peoples there is a question that has not received the attention it deserves: the Nahuatl terminology used to express the different accounts of time. Through a search of 16th century sources in the Nahuatl language and in Spanish, the correct terminology could be established to discuss the Nahuatl calendar. Likewise, this work proposes that the ancient Nahuas did not use two calendars (the tonalpohualli and the xiuhpohualli) as proposed by most scholars, but three different calendarical accounts: the tonalpohualli, the cempohuallapohualli and the xiuhtlapohualli.
