| Sumario: | We made a review of the literature of the tic disorder over thelast twenty years. We found that tic disorders are frequentamong the general population, mainly during childhood, butfrequently disappear spontaneously. Chronic tics are associatedwith other mental disorders, particularly attention deficitdisorder and obsessive compulsive disorder. The most severetic disorder is Gilles de la Tourette syndrome.The treatment ofthe tic disorder should always take into account comorbidity.It has recently been described that a subgroup of patients withtic disorder have elevated antibodies against group Astreptococci. Several types of psychosocial interventions andvarious medications are useful for tic disorders. |
