Sumario:Some investigations about the first dental visit in children are focused on parents anxiety but there are only a few articles talking about their attitude. The purpose of this study was to identify the parents attitudes regarding the first dental visit of their children. The investigation was developed using sixty parents, who requested for the first time dental service for their children at “Clínica Reforma” of the Facultad de Estudios Superiores Zaragoza at Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. The study was carried out in two stages. The first stage consisted in filling out a survey of public opinion towards their childrens´ first dental consultation. Stage two consisted in separating the parents randomly into two, the control group and the study group. An informative talk (persuasive communication) about the importance of the first dental visit in children was given to the study group. Finally, the attitude measurement survey was applied again to the sixty parents. The results were analyzed with a SPSS 9.0 statistic program. To identify some possible statistical differences, the χ2 test was applied with a significant level of 0.05. This study showed that still with the employment of the persuasive communication the study group did not achieve a change of attitude.
