Many historical works propose that Velasco traveled to New Spain when he was a boy along with his father entourage. This research work proves that, on the contrary, he lived in Spain, England and the Netherlands before arriving at New Spain. He was member of a group of young noblemen who escorted Prince Philip before his ascent to Spain’s throne. Once in Mexico, Velasco the younger took his own role within the colonial society. In this article, his personal friends, his political relations after the marriages of his sister and uncle, the social group around the viceroy palace and his own matrimonial selection, are analyzed. Likewise, the article ends with an analysis of Velasco’s role in the conspiracy of Martín Cortés.
