Sumario:In this paper we characterize a perspective of problem solving as a didactic approach. In particular, the characteristics of a learning community that favor the development of learning with understanding are identified, based on the contributions of some mathematicians and mathematics educators, such as George Polya, Paul Halmos, Jaques Hadamard, Alan Schoenfeld, James Hiebert and Richard Lesh.
