| Sumario: | This essay studies the landscape and the history of cartography in colonial America, and focuses on two maps which were found on geographical reports from the sixteenth century. We make an approach not only to the geographical regions but also to the cultural influence that affected this cartography. These maps witnessed the history of the world’s image. Senses and language take part in them, the flow of history is interrupted and we are invited to look for the ideas and concepts used in the organization of the territory. |
