| Summary: | The aim of this article is to analyze the return of Mexican individuals to Mexico City from the United States, focusing on their interactions with state institutions while seeking access to citizenship rights. Employing a qualitative methodology based on 33 biographical interviews, the analysis reveals that this encounter in the city and the recognition of citizenship as Mexicans are materialized through the process of reclaiming identity documents and are situated within their initial efforts to seek support from government social programs. These programs, influenced by local political circumstances, will maintain an ambiguous visibility/invisibility regarding the returnee's status. |
