Description
Summary:Currently, Mexico is among the top ten oyster producers globally. Among the main species of oyster commercially exploited in Mexico is Crassastrea carteziensis (oyster of pleasure or Cortez), which constitutes an important oyster resource in the states of Nayarit, Sinaloa and Sonora. Nayarit, currently occupies the first place in the oyster production in the Mexican Pacific coast, 99% of the production of oyster cultivation in Nayarit comes from the Camichín estuary (92%) and Chino Well (7%). In the national context, it is mentioned that in Nayarit oyster culture is projected as stable; However, the production and quality of the product has not been able to fully enter national and international markets. It is suggested that technical and organizational factors in the different links of the production chain may be some limitations. Given this problem, it is important to evaluate basic aspects of the crop, such as the variability of environmental conditions (physical-chemical variables and food availability) and biological parameters of the oyster (biometries). So the objective of this work was to evaluate the growth and quality of the C. corteziensis oyster cultivated in the Camichín and Pozo Chino, Nayarit estuaries.
