Sumario:This article analyzes the creation of an internal elite in indigenous peoples and nationalities of contemporary Ecuador. Social advancement of indigenous intellectuals is considered in order to determine how the accumulation of a certain amount of capital allows individuals to advance into other social fields, such as the political and academic, and their role face to the Citizens’ Revolution. Therefore, the approach to the problem focuses on circumscribing the legitimacy of the analytical category of the indigenous elite.
