Resumo:This paper analyzes the choice of alternatives in organizations from a normative and formal point of view, and from the perspective of quantitative methods. It examines the rational process of decision making, emphasizing the aspect of structuring a problem and its analysis, rather than the implementation and evaluation of the results. The methodological aspects of the quantitative approach are analyzed and compared with the qualitative approach, highlighting its advantages and disadvantages in the field of organizations. In this sense, the most popular tools of quantitative methods, such as linear programming and probabilistic models, are discussed, as they are decision factors in organizations, i.e., they allow the optimal choice of the solution to a problem, taking into consideration all the relevant factors of the problem. The most important application areas of the different tools and their theoretical and practical limitations are mentioned.
