Perception of Family Functionality and Alcohol Use in Adolescents

| Sumario: | Objective: to identify the perception of adolescents and their parents about family functionality and its relation with the use of alcohol in adolescents. Methods: descriptive, and cross-sectional study. A survey was applied where sociodemographic data, type of family, Family Apgar Test and Test audit, were collected from both adolescents and their parents. Variables of this study were associated with the D of Somers and Gamma statistical analysis. For its significance, it was used the U Mann-Whitney and the Pearson χ2. Results: 236 parents participated, the average age was 14.6 ±2.38 years of standard deviation; 54.7% (129) female; 66.1% completed their basic education level; 92.8% were students. The nuclear family structure was predominantly with 57.2% (135). The adolescent perception was: functional in 86.86%; mild dysfunction in 12.71%; and serious dysfunction in 0.42%. Alcohol consumption was in 27.9%. There was a correlation between family functionality perception from parents with the use of alcohol by the adolescents, obtaining a value of 0.094 and a p=0.072, according to the D of Sommer statistical analysis. Conclusions: use of alcohol by adolescents did not depend on of their family functionality perception. |
