| Sumario: | Pilgrimage to sanctuaries and places of worship continues to be an important element of religious expressions in Mexico and Latin America, as in other parts of the world. In this article we offer a state of the art overview from different studies in particular from anthropology. Among the themes considered are the judeo-christian origins, the anthropological study of pilgrimage, the mexican context, studies in Spain and latin America, lay or secular pilgrimaje and the growing relation between pilgrimaje and tourism.
