| Summary: | This work brings to light a valuable document from 18th century Puebla: the autobiography of José del Castillo Grajeda. It was originally written as a penance in fourteen notebooks and was hidden for almost two centuries. It shows the process of maturity of its author and brings us closer to one of the most fascinating characters in the Puebla of that time: Catarina de San Juan, the China Poblana (the Chinese woman who resided in Puebla), because Castillo was one of her three biographers. The text analyzes the relationship between the Chinese woman and graduate Castillo and the enormous influence she exerted over him during the eleven years their lives were linked. |
