It begins with the hypothesis that the teachings on sexuality transmitted through hegemonic normative models may violate some of people’s rights in the sphere of sexuality, either by discrimination or by omission. Moreover, they may even contradict the teachings of this Catholic tradition and the most recently updated norms. Far from involving a different ideological approach to the secular codes in force in society, the hypothesis of this text is that it involves a type of pastoral negligence, once the normative criteria in force at this institution are contextualized. This text explores the notions of the responsibilities of the interpreters of Catholic religion and the rights of those who regard themselves as believers. To this end, the author analyzes the discourse related to sexuality, in particular in the spheres that have been recognized as a specific object of human rights and explores the abuse of power through the moral intimidation of believers. He also documents the potential of the Church’s original discourse for reconciling itself with the human rights category in the sphere of sexuality.En este texto se exploran algunas coincidencias y discrepancias entre el discurso de los derechos humanos y las normas que propone la Iglesia católica al vincularse con las prácticas sexuales. Se parte de la hipótesis de que las enseñanzas sobre sexualidad transmitidas a partir de modelos normativos hegemónicos de esta institución pueden violentar algunos derechos humanos de las personas en el ámbito de su sexualidad, tanto por discriminación como por omisión, pero además llegan a contradecir las mismas enseñanzas de esta tradición católica y de sus actualizaciones normativas más recientes. Lejos de tratarse de una diferente aproximación ideológica respecto a los códigos seculares vigentes en la sociedad, la hipótesis del texto es que se trata de un tipo de negligencia pastoral, una vez que se contextualizan los criterios normativos vigentes en esta institución. En este texto interesa explorar las nociones de responsabilidades de los intérpretes de la religión católica y de los derechos de quienes se consideran creyentes de la misma. Para ello se analiza el discurso que tiene que ver con la sexualidad, en particular en aquellos ámbitos que se han reconocido como objeto específico de los derechos humanos, y además se explora el abuso del poder mediante la intimidación moral hacia los creyentes.
