| Sumario: | This article explores the relationship between electoral abstencionism and the COVID-19 pandemic in the municipal elections of the State of Hidalgo in 2020. For this, the question is posed: Did the collective risk resulting from the covid-19 pandemic causes less electoral participation? The question is due to the fact that the rates of infections and deaths from the SARS-CoV-2 virus generate risk in society and, therefore, high costs for voters. To answer this question, a quantitative methodology is used through measures of association between variables (Student’s t test, Pearson’s correlation and coefficient of determination). The results are analyzed from the sociological approach of electoral behavior and preliminarily indicate that there is no statistically significant relationship between the pandemic and participation, nor are there any significant differences in abstention rates compared to those of the 2016 municipal election. |
