Sumario:The prostate is a gland that weighs 15-20 grams divided into 4 zones: the peripheral zone that constitutes 70% of the gland and is the area palpated during digital rectal examination. The central zone includes the area in relation to the ejaculatory ducts and corresponds to 20% of the glandular tissue. The remaining 10% is formed by the transition zone around the urethra and the anterior non-glandular fibromuscular stroma. Prostate cancer is the malignancy most common in adult man 98% corresponds to the adenocarcinoma of prostatic acini, which is slow growing and often passes indolent for the patient to advanced stages. Of patients with this disease 8% will develop significant symptoms and 3% will die from this disease.
