The aim of this study is to reflect about the peripheral and frontier nature of both Oia’s patrimony and the Portuguese territory in which it was situated, based on the relations between the monastery and the Portuguese Crown during the Reigns of Afonso Henriques, D. Dinis, Afonso IV and João I.El monasterio de Santa María de Oia, localizado en la costa de la actual provincia de Pontevedra, mantuvo desde su fundación, a mediados del siglo xii, un estrecho vínculo con el territorio portugués. Una parte considerable de su conjunto patrimonial estaba ubicada en Portugal, concretamente, en el Noroeste, en la raya con Galicia, y en la región de la Estremadura Central. El propósito de este estudio es reflexionar sobre el carácter periférico y fronterizo de dicho patrimonio y de los territorios portugueses que lo enmarcaban, a través de las relaciones establecidas por el monasterio de Oia con la Corona portuguesa en los reinados de D.
