Resumo:Throughout the Iberian Peninsula, the period from 1000 to 1500 saw profound transformations as monetary systems were renewed and credit markets emerged. These markets were underpinned by specialized financial agents who dealt with increasingly sophisticated contracts, institutions and instruments. The emergence of monetary systems, credit markets and specialized agents were complex and multifaceted processes that cannot be studied without close consideration of cultural and political factors. Also, these developents did not proceed at the same pace in all peninsular realms and did not lead to the same results everywhere.
