Sumario:[EN]Introduction: The basis of probiotic therapy is the administration of live microorganisms to the patient’s microbiota in order to repair or reinforce it in risk situations. Objectives: To study and improve the patient’s knowledge about probiotic therapy. To contrast the benefits of combining this therapy with other treatments to treat different pathologies. Materials and method: Study of 32 cases in which the patient presents a prescription for a probiotic or it is prescribed from the pharmacy office from February to July 2017. The data is obtained from two interviews and analysed with the Office-Excel computer program. Results: In 25% of the cases studied, probiotics are prescribed. Most of the patients receive the necessary information from the prescriber. The rest is unaware of the therapy. The number of prescriptions is greater for treatments of established pathologies than in prophylaxis. The patients are satisfied with the effectiveness of the treatment. The adhesion to the treatment was successful. The safety of probiotics is proven. The patients rated the information received as beneficial and would repeat it in case of being in a similar situation. Conclusions: Patients do not know the benefits of probiotic therapy. Prescriptions by physicians are scarce. The results indicate that important assistance work can be carried out by the pharmacy office regarding the treatment of minor pathologies with probiotics.
