Sumario:A description of 100 maize populations from Guipuzcoa, in the North of Spain, is reported. These populations are at present preserved in the Germplasm Bank of the Estacion Experimental de Aula Dei of Zaragoza (Spain). An experimental design of complete randomized blocks with three replications in two environments was used. Eighteen plant, ear and kernel traits were analized. Mean values of the populations were obtained. Descriptive analyses of traits showed high phenotypic variability. Combined analyses of variance for all traits indicated highly significant differences between populations. High correlation coefficients among several traits suggest the action of indirect selection.
