| Resumo: | Jon McNaughton is an American artist with leanings toward the alt-right and could be considered a staunch supporter of Donald Trump. His work, which has been subject to criticism, has not been analyzed by any academic study. This article aims to examine nine of his paintings dating from 2018 to 2021, a period during which Donald Trump held the presidency of the country. Through the exegesis of these political paintings, the nationalist symbols that the author sought to promote will be decoded. Additionally, these symbols will help explain a political narrative centered around three thematic axes: British Israelism, white nationalism, and the importance of the mythology that was constructed around American Independence in the collective imaginary of that American territory. The methodology employed is purely hermeneutical as it will describe the content of his paintings. With this cultural studies-based approach, emphasis will be placed on the importance of metapolitics in the American far-right. |
