C.10 páginas, 4 tablas, 4 figuras[EN] The demersal fishery off Galicia (NW Spain) is carried out in an area between 42º and 44º N latitude and 7º and 90º 30' longitud approximately, both in Atlantic and Cantabric sea waters. Main fishing harbours extend all along this area, and the fishing fleet operates normally in depths from 100 to 500 m (Fig. 1), covering an area vvhich has been calculated in 4228 square miles (LÓPEZ VEIGA et al., in press). The nature of the bottoms is variable. The continental shelf ranges from about 20 to 40 miles in its widest point off the coast line. [...] Merluccius merluccius, hake, Nephrops norvegicus, norway lobster, Lepidorhombus whiffiagonis, Lepidorhombus boscii, whiff, megrim, Trachurus trachurus, horse-mackerel,Micromesistius putassou, blue whiting, Lophius boudegassa, Lophius piscatorius, anglerfishes, Eledone cirrosa, Todaropsis eblanae, cephalopods, Merluccius bilinearis, silver hake[ES] La pesquería de merluza en Galicia se caracteriza por dos factores principales: un gran esfuerzo pesquero, lo que determina unos valores de la mortalidad por pesca muy superiores a Fmax, y un tamaño de mallas muy pequeño, lo que determina que los individuos sean reclutados a edades muy tempranas a la pesquería. A pesar de estos dos hechos, el reclutamiento anual, aún se mantiene a niveles altos. En general, se viene considerando que la regulación de las pesquerías a Fmax, no es recomendable, dadas las implicaciones de la relación stock-reclutamiento. Sin embargo, en la pesquería de Galicia,, a pesar de un stock parental muy reducido, el reclutamiento es aún considerable, lo que pudiera ser un efecto del afloramiento que existe en este área.
