The analysis of the historical progression of the different waves of transformation of the Pyrenean Mountains since the beginning of the nineteenth century shows interesting common characteristics. This concludes that there is succession of territorial policies implemented by the Spanish state with cumulative effects on the social and ecological landscape of the Pyrenees. This succession, which can be studied as a genealogy due to its commonalities, connects historical and political moments as diverse as municipalization, disentailment campaigns, forest expropriations, and the massive implementation of protected areas occurred at the end of the twentieth century. It is argued that each institutional endeavor has prepared the ground for the next one. Although the impacts of these policies have tended to displace resources and jurisdictions towards the centralized public administrations, they have often been challenged by local communities. These challenges have often resulted on the reinvention of traditional managerial institutions such as the commons, transforming them into ownership societies or creating cooperatives.[ES] En este artículo se explican los Pirineos españoles actuales como el resultado de la acción transformadora del Estado moderno. Se analiza parte del proceso de re-organización de los recursos naturales de los Pirineos mediante diferentes tipos de políticas públicas. El análisis de la progresión histórica de las diferentes fases de transformación de las montañas pirenaicas desde principios del siglo XIX muestra interesantes características comunes. Se concluye que ha existido una sucesión de políticas territoriales promovidas por Estado español con claros efectos acumulativos sobre el paisaje social y ecológico de los Pirineos. Esta sucesión, que puede ser estudiada como una genealogía, vincula momentos históricos y políticos tan distintos como la municipalización y la desamortización del siglo XIX y las expropiaciones forestales y la masiva implementación de áreas protegidas de finales del siglo XX. Se argumenta que cada uno de estos embates institucionales ha preparado el terreno para el siguiente. Los impactos de estas políticas, sin embargo, aunque han tendido a desplazar recursos y jurisdicciones en favor de las Administraciones Públicas, han sido a menudo contestados por las comunidades locales.
