Sumario:Within the context of the climate crisis, good knowledge of our forests is needed so that we can manage them sustainably in order to keep forests more productive and, more importantly, to keep them resilient and strong. Within this concern, mixed forests seem to be our great allies. However, due to the complex structure of this kind of forest, measuring and evaluating the interaction of species with conventional measurement techniques through tools such as calipers and hypsometers is difficult to do – leading too much of the interactions in these forests being still largely unknown. However, thanks to advancements in science and technology, we can now count on devices such as Terrestrial Laser Scanners (TLS), which can make a faithful reproduction of reality in Three-Dimensions (3D), allowing us to study the forest from our computers. In the last decades, many studies have emerged focusing on the understanding of mixed forest structures, proving more studies are needed to be able to conclude a sound theory as each species seem to interact differently from each other.
