Descripción
Sumario:During the Spanish Transition a broad consensus was reached to regulate the public dimen-sions of religion. The three basic agreements were religious freedom, church-state separation and state cooperation with the most important denomination in Spain, the Catholic one, as well as with the other denominations. The former two were reached with almost no discussion, in sharp contrast to past vicious quarrels during nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Just the latter raised some disagree-ment, but it was approached in a very moderate disposition. This article rereads that period of Spanish history considering how centrist attitudes prevailed during the Spanish Transition. Those centrist atti-tudes already existed in Spain during nineteenth and twentieth centuries, though overshadowed by intense polarization between clericals and anti-clericals.
