Descripción
Sumario:[EN]The study of the fragments of ornamental stones found in the archaeological interventions developed in León, allows us to draw some conclusions about the architectural ornament in the camp of the legio VII gemina, paying the special attention to the archaeological and topographical context of the finds. While we may assume that the Roman camps have a rather impoverished monumental appearance, a closer investigation on the singles findspots of columns, wall piers, friezes and marble cladding confirm the existence of monumental buildings, some of them highly-decorated (baths, headquarters). This becomes a monumental expression of imperial power, expressed through the military architecture of one of the main settlements of the Roman army in Hispania during the Principate.
