Sumario:The study of the geographic perspective of La Araucana, in connection with the visions of nature, is a subject analyzed in critical works from different angles. Whether focusing on geographic data transmuted into epic geographies, or focusing on the well-known duality in the poetizations of nature (paradisiacal or infernal), these studies envision the spatial and ideological procedures with which La Araucana stands as a paradigmatic work for the construction of the literary geography born in the texts about discovery. This article realizes a new development of this vision with the relevant complement provided by the “Geographic Index” created by José Toribio Medina in his “Centennial Edition”, in which it is evident that Ercilla named the most diverse places on the planet so that Chile, “in the famous Antarctic region”, was appearing on the world map that the index draws.
