It is first shown that prenominal possessives with indefinites in both GC and CEP evaluate the possession relation, indicating that there is a close relation between the possessor and the possessum, whereas prenominal possessives in the SI [Indefinite+Poss+N] construction are (non-evaluative) unmarked possessives. It is also argued that prenominal possessives with indefinites in GC and CEP have the syntactic and semantic properties of strong forms (in Cardinaletti 1998’s sense), while prenominal possessives following an indefinite determiner in SI are weak forms. A formal analysis of prenominal possessives with indefinites in the Romance varieties under study which accounts for their particular properties in structural terms is further providedResearch for this work, which was completed during a stay at Università Ca’ Foscari, is part of the projects PID2021-123617NB-C42/44 and 2021-SGR-00483, and has also been supported by the Spanish government international grant PRX22-00003Universitat Autònoma de BarcelonaDepartamento de Filología EspañolaFacultad de Filosofía y LetrasGobierno de España20252025-11-12research articlehttp://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_2df8fbb1VoRhttp://purl.org/coar/version/c_970fb48d4fbd8a85info:eu-repo/semantics/articleapplication/pdfhttps://hdl.handle.net/10486/758261https://dx.doi.org/10.5565/rev/isogloss.557reponame:Biblos-e Archivo.
