And these experiences, which are presented as part of a life full of ups and downs, create a universe of female characters, in which one can say that there is a deceptive plural, because these characters are in fact just one, reflecting Gamboa’s transition from young man to adult, in the stages of initiation, evolution and graduation. This self-referential text was written from the perspective of literary studies, with the aim of contributing to the study of masculinities, as well as that of personal papers and their value as documentary sources.[ES] Muchos años antes de la fiebre por exhibir el yo en los ambientes virtuales, el escritor Federico Gamboa hizo un striptease emocional, con tan sólo 28 años, al publicar su autobiografía, Impresiones y recuerdos, en 1893. Buena parte de su razonamiento descansa en la vinculación erótica afectiva con diversas mujeres. Y estas experiencias, que son presentadas como parte de una vida llena de altibajos y mudanzas, dibujan un universo de personajes femeninos, en el que se puede decir que hay un plural engañoso, pues estos personajes en realidad son uno solo, el cual certifica la transición de Gamboa, de joven a adulto, en las etapas de iniciación, evolución y graduación.
