Descrição
Resumo:[EN] Changes in the concentration of photosynthetic pigments were studied in one-year peach tree leaves, from spring to autum senescence. The analytical method employed was reversed phase high performance liquid chromatography, which resolve and quantifies the carotenoids neoxanthin, violaxanthin, lutein and β-carotene and the chlorophylls a and b. In addition, the chlorophyll a/b and chlorophylls/carotenoids ratios were calculated. Pigment levels were found to increase through the summer and to decline in autumn. During the autumn senescent period, preceding leaf fall, chlorophylls decreased rapidly. The levels of carotenoids declined at the same time as those of chlorophylls, but at a much lower rate. Trees with symptoms of ill-health showed lower pigment concentration that normal ones specially when calculated on a chorophyll a basis.
