| Sumario: | The situation of contemporary photojournalism in Spain appears at first sight puzzling and contradictory: on the one hand, the generation of the best prepared, and most awarded internationally; on the other, the status and recognition accorded to them within the media industry does not quite match the intrinsic value of their work and contributions. It is the goal of this thesis to find the causes of this paradoxical situation, by grounding the analysis of contemporary graphic journalism with historical research on how photography has beenaddressed in the Spanish official education system.The dearth of extant studies and bibliographical sources on photojournalism in the country has made it necessary to gather a substantial amount of information through interviews with experts, polls carried out among professionals working for different media outlets, and analyses stemming from fieldwork. All of these methodologies are used as the basic tools for the development of our research. The main object of this study is the period comprising between 2016 and 2019. Yet the unavoidable historical background, needed to understand how photojournalism in Spain has arrived to its current situation, entails the necessity of widening the temporal span of our investigation, from the very beginnings of the photographic art, through the first inclusion of photography to the curricula in compulsory education, to the establishment of the first institutions of higher education devoted to photojournalism in the middle of the 20 th Century... |
