| Summary: | [EN] In academic libraries, the change from paper to electronic format meant a transformation in access and in the business models that emerged. We are currently experiencing another disruptive moment, moving from a reading model to one that combines reading and publishing in open access through transformative agreements. These agreements began at the institutional level and have subsequently been implemented at the national level in Spain through CRUE with several of the main academic publishers. The agreements have led to an increase in the number of open access publications without a global extra cost, although they have also created certain difficulties for institutions because of the conditions agreed. Transformative agreements are not the only way to achieve open access to publications publicly funded. Currently, there are other options that could become viable and complementary alternatives: diamond journals, dissemination in repositories, Subscribe to Open models, SCOAP3, etc. The future of open access publishing is based on a balanced ecosystem composed of multiple options for researchers and institutions. |
