Descripción
Sumario:[EN] Besides the Kutubiya mosque, the Qasba mosque is one of the biggest Almohad construction currently preserved at Marrakech. According to written sources, it was founded by the caliph Abū Yūsuf Ya῾qūb al-Manṣūr (1184-1199), although it has suffered later modifications. Its plan has been traditionally thought to be the most different one among the Almohad coeval examples. However, its current state is the result of two factors: its original innovative design and its subsequent transformations. This paper aims to analyse the building by means of available research tools, in order to understand its spatial evolution and to propose an approach to its Almohad foundational configuration. It is thus intended to show that its current design does not correspond to the primitive one and to have a more accurate view of the Almohad mosques. Although there is not currently any chance to undertake a stratigraphic study, a configurational analysis has been carried out.
