Sumario:[EN] The Royal Academy of Spain in Rome stands on what once was the Franciscan Convent of San Pietro in Montorio. This article analyzes its origins and the architectural evolution of the building through pictures, etchings and the historical cartography of Rome. The comparison and study of these images allow the understanding of the complex evolution of this building from its origin until nowadays, and provides interesting information about the elements changed or lost in its architecture, as well as in the landscape of the Gianicolo hill
