Sumario:In this article we study the origins and evolution of the discourse about the Ancient History of the Iberian Peninsula. Apart from some anecdotal beginnings in the Middle Ages, the main focus was produced in the sixteenth Century, during the Renaissance, and in the eighteenth Century with the Enlightenment. The nineteenth century was a period of backwardness although this was followed by some importants initiatives in the early twentieth century. During those years the study of the ancient history of Spain became sounder specially after the discovery of the Iron Age Iberian world, as well as because of the development of classical archaeology.
