| Sumario: | This paper analyses Joan Brossa's experimentation with hypnagogic images and, at a later stage, letters (object and visual poems). In the process it attempts to put forward some general thoughts on man's relationship with language, a problem that directly involves translation and the concept of equivalence in translation. Using the work of Freud as a guide, I explore the origins of the debate on the phenomenon of hypnagogic images. I then look at Lacan's concept of the "letter" (lettre) in seeking to gain an understanding of some of Brossa's output and of the existence of a wall in translation. |
