Sumario:ABSTRACT: As a result of the increasing social demand for environmental values, Natural Areas have become an essential factor for revitalitation of the territories which they are located. However the use of land resources in these areas, mainly urban and tourist, it is not without risks reason why the protection and planning management of these spaces is increasingly imperative. This article is an analysis of the norms and the instruments of protection, planning and management of the natural areas in Cantabria as well of the dangers and threats that are affecting to them, particularly those derive from the processes of urban sprawl, which have become very intense in the two last decades especially in coastal areas.
