This thesis explores the development of the area and its shaping during the colonization period of the Republic of Chile, in that same century. The aim of this thesis is to understand the territory, predominantly through the view of its morphology. This will be developed in three chapters. The first chapter considers the development of the Mapuche territory. It will seek to describe the main constructions and demonstrate that, despite the fact that this people group did not construct cities, it established some morphological patterns for the territory. The second chapter will explore the cartography that was recorded for Arauncanía, from the colonial period until the beginning of the 20th century, with the development of a map by Nicanor Boloña, 1916-1917. The third chapter explains four instruments which the Chilean state used to rule and develop the territory: the establishment of military forts, the division of rural land, the construction of towns, and the construction of the railway. The result of this colonization is a collection of diverse concepts combined with heterogeneous morphological patterns, however with a structure that finds continuity in the north-south direction of the nation that was beginning to be formed.La Araucanía es un territorio que se ha construido por siglos, pero de forma más importante durante el siglo XIX. Esta tesis busca explorar las construcciones territoriales que modelaron la forma del territorio cuando la República de Chile lo coloniza en dicho siglo. El objetivo de la tesis es entender el territorio, principalmente a través de una mirada a su morfología. Para esto desarrollamos tres capítulos. El primero considera la construcción del territorio mapuche. Intentamos describir sus principales construcciones e intentamos demostrar que, a pesar de ser un pueblo que no construyó ciudades, logra establecer algunos patrones morfológicos sobre el territorio. En el segundo capítulo exploramos la cartografía que se ha hecho sobre la Araucanía, desde la época colonial hasta inicios del siglo XX, con la elaboración del plano de Nicanor Boloña en 1916 y 1917. En el tercer capítulo explicamos cuatro instrumentos que el Estado de Chile usa para dominar y construir el territorio: el avance de fuertes militares, la división del suelo rural, la construcción de pueblos, y la construcción de la línea del ferrocarril.
