Descripción
Sumario:[EN] Increasing democratization of digital cameras and access to social networks has enabled Western or Westernized individual who belongs to middle and medium-high class introduces himself loading images on the network society. Amateur –or "prosumer", if we use a current term more appropriate for talking about the Web 2.0– begins a new scope about portrait that leads us to multifarious discussions, reviews and reflections. How is portrayed one to himself in the era of the virtual image? What does it happen about portrait, which had always been related to art, profession and specialty? Our Master Thesis is motivated by these issues. It starts from collecting approximately 1000 profile pictures of Facebook, the most important social network, to observe the new direction taken by the representation of identity, and how the other mass media influence the user for making or to ascribe a certain image one to himself. Our reflection is based on visual rhetoric, art theorists, sociologists and philosophers; we include some artists and activists who use the Facebook platform to reflect on what occurs there in relation to disappearance of intimacy, continuum of stereotypes or privacy policies.
