| Sumario: | [EN] This article describes an innovative approach to peer mentoring put into practice in the Bachelor of Pedagogy, in the former Faculty of Education at the University of Barcelona. Following the approval of an educational innovation project, a peer mentoring (or student-to-student tutoring) programme between first-year and fourth-year students of the Bachelor’s degree course was established in the 2013-14 academic year as one of the courses of action set in motion by the Faculty’s Learning and Services Office. The purpose was for fourth-year students to provide guidance to new entry students and to help them to integrate into the university life. This experience formed part of Professionalization and Employment Opportunities, a compulsory first course in work placement in the second term of the first year, where the tutors and coordinators teach this subject. The actual programme provides support for first-year students throughout the academic year (i.e. not just during the P&EO course), with support being provided by the coordinating group. An additional objective is the collaboration and cooperation of those involved in peer mentoring with the tutors in each class group to improve and enhance the effectiveness of the method. The experience is described from the point of view of the stakeholders (tutors, students, student-mentors and coordinators) with the aim of formulating improvements and enhancements to guidance and mentoring in this specific undergraduate degree course. |
